Chinese birthday wishes are practically always expressed with this character- which means longevity. The knot, a traditional form of decorative craft, gets its shape from an abstract version of the classical Chinese word. Loops and swirls come together with symmetry and grace. I carved one such knot in wax, by hand, and cast it in sterling silver. It is oxidized to show the detail and hangs from a fine, simple 16" sterling silver chain.\rThe symbol does not have to be a birthday gift- its meaning is "may you lead a long and happy life," which is appropriate for almost all occasions. \rOne of a kind and entirely handmade.
